MKBHD launches background noise
+ drippy Zuck returns
Happy Friday!
Welcome back to TWID — the only design newsletter on the internet that will have you thinking about you considering updating your phone background for the first time in five years.
Luckily, wallpapers weren’t the only tweets getting attention this week. Here’s what happened this week in design.

MKBHD launches wallpaper app… in 2024
Famous tech-reviewer MKBHD launches Panels — the wallpaper app that is thankful that MBKBHD himself hasn’t gotten around to reviewing it yet.
The launch immediately received backlash for the pricing ($12/month),extreme data permissions needed, and simple fact that MKBHD would typically roast something like this himself.
Was this simply a cash grab or a short-sighted misstep from the man who’s apparently capable of crushing companies with the snap of a finger?
Brb… starting a ringtone app.
Figma re-introduces AI-powered design (with a new name)
After receiving backlash (what is this… an email all about backlash and angry twitter mobs!?) for allegedly copying Apple’s weather app, Figma has brought back their Make Designs feature.
The first major change is a new name. First Draft.
Okay, the first major change was probably to not allow these designs to create a 1:1 copy of apps that already exist. But the new name is nice too.
With First Draft, Figma hopes to help designers and creators avoid the blank canvas problem while allowing users to create a basic starting design off of a text prompt.
This does sound promising… so let’s hope with a new (arguably better) name comes a fun and useful addition to the tool we can’t stop using.
(Re)introducing First Draft, previously known as Make Design. Currently in limited beta →

Drippy Zuck returned to announce Orion, “the world’s most advanced AI glasses ever made”.
They don’t look great… but they certainly beat walking around with whatever that contraption Apple gave us was.
